Chinese New Year Delays

February 17, 2017

THE 2017 Chinese New Year Holiday will officially fall from January 27 – February 2. It’s also known as the Lunar New Year or Spring Festival, and is the biggest Chinese celebration of the year. Leading into the Chinese New Year period we will experience similar effects on shipping as per the Christmas peak season.

There is reason for potential delays as factories in China close over the holiday period (in some cases up to 3 weeks). Many companies that import from China have planned ahead to ensure inventory arrives before the Chinese New Year. This causes high demand on cargo space availability potentially creating bottle neck scenarios both before and after the holiday period on some trade lanes.

We continue to recommend that customers place their bookings as early as possible prior to and during the Chinese New Year period.
